Electrochemistry is a central science of the 21st century, offering opportunities to utilize the increasingly low cost of renewably generated electrons to reduce emissions in the energy, transportation, and chemical industries. The Mefford Group focuses on developing electrochemical technologies for hard-to-decarbonize sectors of the economy including stationary energy storage, chemical synthesis, and improved methods of resource extraction.
Our interdisciplinary approach spans the development chain, integrating material design and synthesis, electroanalytical evaluation of fundamental charge transfer mechanisms, advanced operando spectroscopy, scattering, and microscopy characterization, computational modeling, and device development.
We believe great science and engineering can only happen through the contributions of diverse experiences, perspectives, and identities. We welcome people of all races, ethnicities, religions, gender identities and sexual orientations. We aim to maintain a welcoming, diverse, equitable, and inclusive research group where all students have the support to reach their highest potential.
